Like most of the places I visit, I had my eye on Meteora since I was a little kid perusing the pages of National Geographic. Meteora is home to 24 monasteries, each built by highly ambitious monks who had to hoist materials up from the valley floor. For their protection, they used removable ladders to keep intruders out.
